Responding to Christmas

The Incarnation is the marriage of God to every aspect of our humanity. He touches every moment of human life – from its conception to its ugly destruction on the cross. God shows us that He has never been aloof, far from us.  He does not stand at a distance from our struggles or sit in judgment without also being close to all the circumstances we find ourselves in.

As the new Adam, Christ begins the pattern of a New Community that can opt out of a sinful world. Although, to belong to this community involves a promise that one day we will be perfect, it is a community of hope that stretches towards becoming the one perfect man who has reclaimed what it once meant to be fully human. It is by the Spirit that we are able to be conformed more perfectly to His likeness, and by our consent.

Having Christ unite himself to us would mean nothing if there is no movement from us seeking to be united to the Divine Son. Therefore, we must respond to Christmas by asking Him to make us more like the child Jesus who lived, died and rose again, as one who was genuinely human yet Divine Love.
