In You’re a Miracle! My Story of Alcoholism, Miraculous Healing, and God’s Infinite Power, Joe McGivney, a relative of Knights of Columbus founder Bl. Michael McGivney, explains his journey from alcohol-infused devastation to healing and happiness through God’s mercy.
Pamela Rogers, MD, in reviewing this book, wrote: “This is a treasure for anyone needing hope with addictions of any sort. Modern miracles do occur and it is refreshing to experience the author’s candor and acknowledgement of supernatural help. I highly recommend this book.”
Introduced to alcohol at a young age, Joe eventually became addicted and his drinking worsened until it overtook his life. In these heart-pounding pages, he shares the havoc this wreaked on his family and health.
Joe explains how his drinking spiraled so far out of control that on December 30, 2020 he collapsed, developed Korsakoff Psychosis and was committed to a psychiatric ward. His family was told he would need 24/7 care for the rest of his life.
But then, one morning, he woke up completely well. Doctors had no explanation for his sudden healing, nor did Joe. Sometime after he was released from treatment and working through the Twelve Steps toward sobriety, Joe discovered the secret of his healing.
As he came to terms with the heartache his drinking had caused his family, he began to experience a spiritual transformation. In this book, he testifies to the healing power of God’s love, his full acceptance of the Catholic Faith, and the significance of the “Surrender Prayer.”
During this spiritual rebirth, Joe learned that his Aunt Gerry had asked for the intercession of Bl. Michael McGivney, founder of the Knights. As he continued on his journey, Joe learned about Bl. McGivney’s life and eagerly shared the story of his healing with McGivney’s cause for canonization.
Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Director Scott O’Connor said: “I highly recommend this book for anyone who has ever struggled with or known someone who has struggled with substance abuse. The book provides a rare insight into the power of prayer and the fact that miracles do happen in our modern world.”
I’m blessed to read a lot of books about God’s mercy, hope, and healing. This is one that was so gripping it was hard for me to put down. Joe’s inspiring story truly gives witness to the intercession of Bl. Michael McGivney. Above all, it reminds us that the same God who created us in His image and redeemed us on the Cross continues to lavish us with His love.
