Revolutionary Classic on Purgatory Back in Print

The Truth about Purgatory, by Fr. Martin Jugie. Sophia Institute Press (Manchester, NH, 2022). 272 pp., $19.95.

In The Truth about Purgatory, acclaimed author Fr. Martin Jugie accessibly explains what the Church really teaches about the Holy Souls and ways we can avoid Purgatory.

It relates real-life stories of individuals who atoned for sin, and teachings from the saints, including St. John Vianney, St. Gertrude the Great, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Catherine of Genoa. Also found in this book are experiences of the Holy Souls.

This book will enlighten readers how to:

• Lead lives of heroic virtue to reduce their time in purgatory or avoid it altogether
• Atone for their sins on earth by cultivating faith like a child, fulfilling their duties, and practicing charity
• Understand the relationship between the Church Militant, Church Suffering, and Church Triumphant
• Pray for the Holy Souls to help them attain Heaven
• Assist the dying in their passage to eternity through Masses and Extreme Unction
• Ask Our Lady’s intercession for the salvation of souls

Fr. Jugie further shares the effect of sin on souls and why the sacraments are so important to help us on our journey to Heaven. He also explains where Purgatory is located, the experience of the Holy Souls, and the Church’s teaching on indulgences.

Although it may seem like a somber doctrine, in His mercy, God created Purgatory for our purification so that we can be with Him one day in Heaven. Amidst sufferings, the holy souls possess the hope of seeing God face to face. This book provides a “road map” and practical suggestions to help you attain Paradise too.
