Healing the Culture Urges Supreme Court to Dump Roe Once and For All

Healing the Culture Urges Supreme Court:

Use Dobbs Case to Dump “Archaic Judicial Artifact” of Roe v. Wade

International organization leading the charge to elevate culture and affirm Constitutional right to life

The United States Supreme Court heard arguments on December 1, 2021 in a case concerning a Mississippi state law that prohibits aborting children after 15 weeks gestational age. Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization presents the best opportunity in many decades for the Supreme Court to overturn the outdated Roe v. Wade decision of 1973. Roe made abortion on demand a de facto right and is the legal travesty responsible for the national genocide of preborn children in America.

Camille Pauley, co-founder along with Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., of Healing the Culture, recognizes this critical case as an opportunity to highlight the reckless jurisprudence of Roe and the need for America’s laws to protect the dignity of every innocent human life.  Founded in 2003, Healing the Culture is an international leader in pro-life advocacy, delivering respect life education to millions of people in the United States and around the world.

The Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs won’t be issued until the summer of 2022, but Pauley believes now is the time to increase public awareness of the philosophically bankrupt reasoning that spawned Roe and a legal regime that has devalued human life for nearly 50 years.

“Roe v. Wade is an archaic judicial artifact on life support, and the Supreme Court should seize this opportunity to dump it on the ash heap of history,” Pauley said. “But no matter how this decision falls, Roe is a crippled legal dogma that will not long survive. Science, philosophy, and public opinion have passed it by. Our hope is that the Court’s ruling in Dobbs will bury this dead letter from the past and reinstate the principles of human rights that are outlined in the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution.”

At 15 weeks, a preborn child is the size of an apple, has all her biological features, and can move, taste, and feel pain. Mississippi’s law is an incremental step in protecting this child and others like her, but Pauley notes that the work of the pro-life movement will continue until all preborn lives are legally protected from the violence of abortion, regardless of their stage of development.

“The lethal logic of Roe v. Wade is that your life won’t be protected unless you’ve attained a certain level of development,” continues Pauley. “But this violates the most critical and important principles of civilization – do no harm, the ends don’t justify the means, every human being is intrinsically valuable, the right to life must take priority over the right to liberty, and numerous others. Without these principles, civilization collapses.”

Camille Pauley is available to comment on Healing the Culture’s pro-life initiatives, to elaborate on fundamental principles that undergird human rights, and to offer a critique of today’s pro-abortion ideologies.  To request an interview with Camille, contact Carrie Kline.
