A Catholic Retreat Center for Men is in Danger of being shut down! You Can Help!
The mission of Camp Gargano is to strengthen and encourage men body, mind and soul and to awaken the spiritual warrior.
The mission of CAMP GARGANO is important in our world today. Strengthening and encouraging men to be the spiritual warriors that we are called to be is vital to our families, our church and our country. Many men have little or no true understanding of manhood. Many men have been so confused, abused and mislead that the idea of a true, virtuous man is foreign. That makes the work of CAMP GARGANO that much more important.
There is a very special place in the town of Gargano Italy. It is powerful shrine dedicated to a powerful angel. For more than 1500 years it has been visited by everyone from the curious sightseer to the struggling sinner. Millions of pilgrims have sought and found peace, comfort and strength at this shrine to the Archangel St. Michael.
The miraculous accounts of this holy place are numerous and include several apparitions of St. Michael himself. It is literally a cave and those who have entered the walls of this cave include popes and saints too numerous to list here. Though a few of the notable visitors should be mentioned. St. Padre Pio made regular journeys to the shrine. He sent the weak and frail souls that sought strength to this place of spiritual refuge. Another well-known saint was St. Francis of Assisi. It is said that St. Francis in his humility would not enter the cave. These two men desired the same thing that millions of other visitor’s desire that still to this day make the journey to the Archangel’s shrine at Gargano. They desire strength for the battle.
In the United States a place has been built to honor this great angel. It is called CAMP GARGANO and it sits on 100 acres, right in the middle of the country, just 15 miles outside of Lincoln, Nebraska. It was built by RADIX, a Catholic ministry founded by Doug Barry in 1991. Doug Barry is the co-host of EWTN’s popular show, Life on the Rock. The Camp was built with the intention of honoring St. Michael and building and strengthening hearts and souls…for the battle of life!
We see the battle everyday, on all sides of us, in every aspect of life. The attacks to rewrite or tear down truth happen daily on everything from the institution of marriage, the elderly, the unborn and freedom of religion. The loss of innocence and purity especially among the young is rampant and the pain of this destruction is clearly visible with the rise in depression, addiction, divorce, self-mutilation and suicide. The battle is real and people are suffering. Souls are at stake.
CAMP GARGANO has been open for a little more than two years now. And while men and women of all ages have experienced the events and programs at CAMP GARAGNO, the main focus has been on men and for good reason. Our world is in need of men of prayer and men of action.
The events at CAMP GARGANO range from rosary rallies and retreats to boot camp style training complete with an obstacle course and mud run. The 42-bed bunkhouse and full preparation kitchen allows for overnight events for different groups.
CAMP GARGANO is a ministry that needs the prayers and financial support of others. The nature of the work has brought with it the challenges and spiritual attacks that go with the territory. When you deal with matters of the soul and eternal salvation you will inevitably face resistance and conflicts with enemies in this world, and in the next.
CAMP GARGANO is in danger of being shut down. Please consider getting involved in this important ministry.
